Belgian Liege Waffles

During a recent visit to my brother’s house in Arizona, my mom was treated to a new love – Belgian Liege Waffles. Now, we didn’t grow up as frequent waffle makers and connoisseurs, but Liege Waffles were something to truly be desired.

My mom couldn’t get her mind off of those yummy waffles, so when I had a business trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, my mom told me to keep an eye out for the Liege Waffle Truck. I guess it’s a thing in Utah. We didn’t find the truck, but we did find an excellent waffle shop downtown. That is where Keith and I got to try our first Belgian Liege Waffles. We were in love! You can eat them with fruit topping, nutella, bananas, you name it! These are not your ordinary waffles….

Okay, so I have been a tad (or a lot) slow when it comes to updating the new site. Let me fill you in on our latest happenings though. Keith and I got married (obviously), and became the Buys family. Then we bought a house, which has taken up a lot of our time. That also means lots of material to post here! It really is amazing how much we have updated this house in a short amount of time. It hardly looks like the same place, and I can’t wait to show you all the before and after photos. To put it simply, I have been doing tons of buying, and Keith has been doing tons of building. I have helped some, but he is the true talent behind the remodeling. I just have the eye for the vision and design. He gets to make it happen.

Repurposed Old Doors: Vintage Wedding Arch

I thought a great way to kick off our new blog would be to showcase some of the fantastic DIY projects we came up with for our beautiful outdoor wedding. We planned our wedding in just ONE WEEK, but by how perfect everything was, you would think we had been planning for months (or even years). We had incredible help from family, and the wedding went off without a hitch.

The first project we thought we would teach you how to replicate uses repurposed old doors. Keith owns a home that was built in 1939. It really has some cool things about it, including these awesome vintage doors. Keith stripped the paint off the doors, sanded them, and put on clear semi-gloss polyurethane. They have been hanging out, ready to be hung back on the jambs when I found a fun wedding use for them. I kid you not when I tell you that Keith built this gorgeous vintage wedding arch on the morning of our wedding!…

Welcome to She Buys, He Builds

Hi there, and welcome to She Buys, He Builds! I’m Emily, and I have a story to tell. You see, I have 4 redheaded kiddos who range from 5 to 11 years old. There may even be a set of twin boys in there.

My adult life hasn’t been the easiest. I got divorced after 11 rough years, just a year ago. I was thinking single motherhood was as good as things might get for me. Hey, at least we had peace in our home! I didn’t enjoy being alone though. I provided for my family via my other blog, CleverHousewife.com. We made do on our own, but there was definitely more happiness to be had.

Then along came Keith – the best thing to ever happen to my kids and me. Keith is one heck of a man. He didn’t bring any kids to the mix, but he brought tools and equipment to the mix. He is so calm and patient with my crazy bunch. We couldn’t be luckier.

Keith and I decided to start this new adventure as a way to share our talents with the world, but also as a way to spend quality time together. I like to think I am creative and savvy, while Keith is an excellent craftsman. Between the two of us, and our fun and crazy family, we hope you will like what you can find here.
