Last year, Keith built me this really simple reclaimed wood wall hanging and I showed you all how to use it to showcase a beautiful ribbon star for Christmas. I’ve kept this hanging up all year, and have swapped out the decorations for every holiday. It’s been so much fun, and it really is a piece that adds to my fireplace mantle. I was racking my brain to figure out what to do for Halloween and I came up with this reclaimed wood Halloween wall hanging, using supplies I already had at home.
Because the wall hanging was already up on the wall and has nails in place for that ribbon star, I pulled out some old spiderwebs from my Halloween tub, and stretched them out across the boards. The nails were perfect for wrapping the cobwebs around. I also had a giant spider from last year’s Haunted House, so I wrapped it’s legs around the sides of the boards, and hung it from the top nail. It worked perfectly and didn’t cost me a thing for this year’s display.
As much as I hate spiders (it’s kind of ridiculous how terrified I am, really) I really love my spider-decorated mantle! I purchased several spiders at the dollar store last year and scattered them across the shelf, and stuck them in some cheesecloth I hung from the mantle. The furry rats are from Oriental Trading, which I also got for last year’s Haunted House. These pictures though – they’re kind of awesome and I just picked them up at the Dollar Store. From one angle they look like normal portraits, and from another, they get super creepy. Pretty great for $1!
